Campaign Finance Reporting
Any person collecting contributions or making expenditures with a view towards influencing his election to public office, even if the specific office is not known, is a candidate for purposes of the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act. Reports are due annually by February 15 and a certain number of days before and after the election.

Also, any person collecting or expending over $200 to influence a ballot issue or the recall of a public official must file disclosure reports.

Automatic Late Fees
Automatic late filing fees will be assessed for every day required campaign finance disclosure reports are late. The fees are $100 per day for major office candidates, $60 per day for district office candidates, and $40 per day for any other office candidates. Additional civil penalties may be imposed for reports more than 10 days late.
