Each of you indicated that you are invited to
pis participate in parades for Mardi Gras and other occasions in which you ride on vehicles and are
clearly identified with a sign containing your name and elected position. You further stated that
the expenses may include carnival or festival favors such as beads and doubloons which do not
bear your name. You noted that the reason you are invited to participate in parades is because
you are elected officials and your involvement is not contingent upon your membership in any
krewe, festival or parade organization.
The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you, that when elected officials or declared
candidates ride in vehicles in which they are clearly identified, the expenses of riding in that
parade constitute legitimate campaign expenditures pursuant to Section 1505.2(I) of the
Campaign Finance Disclosure Act.
Thank you for your requests in this matter. If you have further questions, please call me at (504)
922 -1400.
Sincerely,
LOUISIANA BOARD OF ETHICS
c / n,----
r)
l
'' 111111 Maxis LeBlanc McCrory
For the Board
MLM:ksd
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
