Crochet, M.Ed. <br /> 119 Elm Street <br /> Thibodeaux, Louisiana 70301 <br /> RE: Louisiana Board of Ethics Docket No.2022-379 <br /> Advisory Opinion <br /> Dear Ms. Crochet: <br /> The Louisiana Board of Ethics ("Board"), at its July 8, 2022 meeting, considered your request for <br /> an advisory opinion as to whether the Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics ("Code") would <br /> prohibit you from running for and being elected to a seat on the City of Thibodeaux Council while <br /> remaining the Executive Director of External Affairs at Nicholls State University ("NSU"). <br /> FACTS PROVIDED <br /> You are a currently the Executive Director of External Affairs at NSU. As the Executive Director <br /> of External Affairs, you are responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships between <br /> Nicholls State University and the broader Nicholls community; working collaboratively with the <br /> development personnel; and, directing university efforts that encompass major gifts, donor <br /> stewardship, development of public support groups, fundraising event coordination, corporate <br /> relations and goodwill between the Alumni Federation,Nicholls State University Foundation and <br /> NSU. You intend to qualify and run for City of Thibodeaux Council—District A in the November <br /> 8, 2022 election. You have requested and are awaiting an advisory opinion from the Louisiana <br /> Department of Justice—Office of the Attorney General on whether your election to the Thibodeaux <br /> City Council is prohibited by Dual Office Holding Laws. <br /> CONCLUSION <br /> The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you,that based on the facts presented,the Code <br /> does not prohibit you from being elected to the City of Thibodeaux Council while remaining the <br /> NSU Executive Director of External Affairs. <br /> This advisory opinion is based solely on the facts as set forth herein. Changes to the facts as <br /> presented may result in a different application of the provisions of the Louisiana Code of <br /> Governmental Ethics. The Board issues no opinion as to past conduct or as to laws other than the <br /> Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics, the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act, the Lobbyist <br /> Disclosure Act, and the conflict of interest provisions contained in the Louisiana Gaming Control <br /> Law.
