LaToya Cantrell is currently serving as Councilwoman for the City of New Orleans Council, District B. Her office is in the process of hiring a Legislative Director who will be a part of her staff and will be paid by the City of New Orleans. Ms. Cantrell would like to offset the moving expenses for the new hire with funds from her campaign account in the amount of $3,000.

La. R.S. 18:1505.2I allows a candidate to expend campaign funds for any lawful purpose if the expenditure is not for personal use and is related to the candidate's campaign or holding of office.
La. R.S. 42:1111A(1) prohibits a public servant from receiving any thing of economic value, other than compensation and benefits from the governmental entity to which he is duly entitled, for the performance of the duties and responsibilities of his office and position.
