RE:
Advisory opinion request whether Craig Romero may receive compensation from existing insurance policies with customers of the Port of Iberia if he became an employee of the Port.
Facts:
Mr. Romero is a licensed property and casualty insurance producer for Laris Insurance Agency (Laris). If hired by the Port of Iberia (Port) he will maintain his employment with Laris. He currently has an existing policy with Iberia Aggregates which has a lease with the Port. The term of this policy is one year and renews on January 25, 2015. Mr. Romero receives compensation for the policy and renewals.
Law:
Section 1111C(2)(d) prohibits a public servant from receiving anything of economic value for or in consideration of services rendered or to be rendered to a person who has or is seeking to have a contract with your agency.
Recommendations:
Adopt the proposed advisory opinion.
