The Office of Code Enforcement (Office) within the Parish Planning and Zoning Department is responsible for determining whether a violation of the Parish Code of Ordinances has occurred, including whether grass and weeds on privately owned property violate Parish Ordinance 26-22. Furthermore, the Office maintains the official list of persons qualified to mow properties that are deemed to be in violation at the property owner's expense.
Bernell Charles, Jr. is a member of the Parish Planning and Zoning Board. The Parish Planning and Zoning Board, whose members are appointed by the St. John the Baptist Parish Council, makes recommendations to the Parish Council regarding requests for mobile home permits and rezoning. The Parish Planning and Zoning Board has no supervision or jurisdiction over the Parish Planning and Zoning Department, which is under the authority of the Parish President.
