RE:
Advisory opinion request regarding whether the Dorsey Insurance Agency can submit proposals for insurance coverage with the Acadia Parish Police Jury while its employee, Alfred J. "Fatty" Broussard, serves as an elected member of the Police Jury.
Facts:
Alfred "Fatty" Broussard has served as an elected member of the Acadia Parish Police Jury since January 12, 2004. He has recently become employed with the Dorsey Insurance Agency as an independent contractor. However, Mr. Broussard has no control over nor does he have an ownership interest in the Dorsey Insurance Agency.
Law:

La. R.S. 42:1115A prohibits a public servant from soliciting or accepting, directly or indirectly, any thing of economic value as a gift or gratuity from any person or from any officer, director, agent, or employee of such person, if such public servant knows or reasonably should know that the person has or is seeking to obtain contractual or other business or financial relationships with the public servant's agency.
