Ms. Curtis-Sparks requested an advisory opinion regarding whether the Code of Governmental Ethics would prohibit her from serving as a Sabine Parish Police Juror while employed as the Director of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission. Ms. Curtis Sparks intends to seek election as the Sabine Parish Police Juror for District 2. The Sabine Parish Tourist Commission is a public entity which was created by the Parish Police Jury in 1975 pursuant to La. R.S. 33:4574.
Additionally, Ms. Curtis-Sparks provided that if elected she would recuse herself from participation in the selection of the members of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission and any item related to the funding for the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission.
