Donovan K. Hudson plans to run for the office of State Representative, District 40. He has heard rumors that another candidate for the office is likely to file a lawsuit to challenge his residency upon his qualification for office in early September. Mr. Hudson asked whether legal fees incurred to defend a challenge to the residency qualification of a candidate are allowable uses of campaign finance funds.

La. R.S. 18:1505.2I allows a candidate to expend campaign funds for any lawful purpose if the expenditure is not for personal use and is related to the candidate's campaign or holding of office.
