Appearance in connection with a request that the Board reconsider waiving the $1,025 campaign finance late fee assessed against John "Jay" Batt, Jr., in his capacity as a candidate for New Orleans City Council/District A, in the February 6, 2010 election, whose 2015 supplemental campaign finance disclosure report was filed 22 days late.
Facts:
John Waters, attorney for John Batt, states that Mr. Batt was an unsuccessful candidate in 2010 when he ran for New Orleans City Council. Mr. Batt states that he has not run for office again and has instead focused on his business and public interests by serving on the New Orleans City Park Board of Commissioners. He states that his 2010 campaign account was left with a $670 surplus and he requested that his staff close the campaign account. Mr. Batts states that he obtained a $354.45 contribution and made two small expenditures and paid bank fees.

18:1505.4.A(1) Any candidate, the treasurer or chairman of a political committee, or any other person required to file any reports under this Chapter, who knowingly fails to file or who knowingly fails to timely file any such reports as are required by this Chapter may be assessed a civil penalty for each day until such report is filed. 18:1484.(2)(b). Each candidate for any other public office shall file reports of contributions in excess of two hundred dollars in the aggregate during the aggregating period.
