Waiver request submitted by Moses Wilkins, member of the Richland Parish School Board-District 3, regarding a $1,500 late fee assessed for filing his 2016 School Board Disclosure Statement 140 days late.
Facts:
Mr. Wilkins stated that he and his wife were separated and subsequently divorced in April 2016. A request was sent for a copy of the judgment of divorce. Mr. Wilkins responded stating that he thought he was divorced at the time the disclosure was due and it was a mistake.

Law:
La. R.S. 42:1119B(2)(a)(iii) requires that within thirty days after the beginning of each school year, any school board member or superintendent whose immediate family member is employed by the school board shall file a disclosure statement with the Board of Ethics stating the facts of such employment. Any person who fails to timely file a disclosure statement may be assessed a late fee of fifty dollars per day, not to exceed $1,500.
Recommendations:
Waive the late fee.
