Request that the Board waive two $2,000 ($4,000) campaign finance late fees assessed against Walter A. "Walt" Bennetti, in his capacity as a candidate for Mayor / Cityof Kenner, Jefferson Parish (Pop. 66,702), in the April 5, 2014 election, whose 2015 Supplemental and 2016 Supplemental campaign finance disclosure reports have not been filed.
Facts:
Walter A. Bennetti states that he filed his final 2014 campaign finance report. During the campaign, he states he loaned his campaign $5,000. He states the final report shows that this debt was written off. He states that his final report noted that his campaign account had a positive balance of $12.79. He states he went to the bank a few days after submitting his final report to close his campaign account and there was a $15.00 service charge. He states he paid the bank manager $2.21 to make up the difference of the service charge and closed the account. He states he has not received nor solicited any additional campaign donations nor had any campaign activity since submitting the final campaign report and closing his account.

Law:
18:1505.4.A(1) Any candidate, the treasurer or chairman of a political committee, or any other person required to file any reports under this Chapter, who knowingly fails to file or who knowingly fails to timely file any such reports as are required by this Chapter may be assessed a civil penalty for each day until such report is filed. 18:1484.(2)(b). Each candidate for any other public office shall file reports of contributions in excess of two hundred dollars in the aggregate during the aggregating period.
