Gerald Jones is the brother of Lafourche Parish Councilmember Jerry Jones, who has served on the Council continuously since 2008. In 2014, Gerald Jones was hired by the previous Lafourche Parish Government administration in the Department of Public Works. Following the election of current Parish President James Cantrelle, Gerald Jones's employment was terminated. This decision has been appealed to the Civil Service Board.

La. R.S. 42:1119A(1)(a) provides that no member of the immediate family of an agency head shall be employed in his agency.
La. R.S. 42:1119C(2) provides that 1119A shall not prohibit the continued employment of any public employee where a member of the public employee's immediate family becomes the agency head of such public employee's agency, provided that such public employee has been employed in the agency for a period of at least one year prior to the member of the public employee's immediate family becoming the agency head.
La. R.S. 42:1102(3) defines "agency head" to include any member of a board or commission who exercises supervision or jurisdiction over the agency.
La. R.S. 42:1102(13) defines an "immediate family member" to include a public servant's sibling.
