RE:
Advisory opinion request concerning post-employment restrictions that would apply to Clifton Gremillion after he retires from Louisiana State Penitentiary.
Facts:
Clifton Gremillion is currently employed by Louisiana State Penitentiary (Angola), as a supervisor over the Communications Department. Mr. Gremillion's job duties include overseeing all of the electronic equipment at Angola. After he retires, Mr. Gremillion is considering accepting employment with LaTech, a company that holds a statewide contract for sales and service for cameras and security related equipment for public agencies. It is possible that a request may be made in the future for LaTech to provide equipment or services to Angola.
Law:
La. R.S. 42:1121A prohibits a former agency head, for a period of two years following the termination of his public service as the head of such agency, from assisting another person, for compensation, in a transaction, or in an appearance in connection with a transaction, involving that agency or rendering any service on a contractual basis to or for such agency.
Recommendations:
Adopt the proposed advisory opinion.
Assigned Attorney: Jennifer Land
