Jauan King currently serves as the President of the Board of Commissioners for the Washington Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 ("District"). Her husband, David King, is a volunteer and serves as the Deputy Fire Chief. The membership of the District would like to nominate David King to position of Fire Chief. All firefighting positions in the District are voluntary and no compensation is granted.

La. R.S. 42:1119A provides that no member of the immediate family of an agency head shall be employed in his agency.
La. R.S. 42:1119C(6) provides: The provisions of this Section shall not apply to the employment of a volunteer firefighter or to any decision regarding the employment of a volunteer firefighter by an agency head, a chief executive of a governmental entity, or a member of a government authority provided the member participates in fire and rescue functions and receives no remuneration for her services, and "decision regarding employment" shall include any decision involving the employment, promotion, discipline, discharge, or assignment of the firefighter.
