RE:
Advisory opinion request as to whether Kevin Delaney may be employed as a teacher at South Cameron High School in Cameron Parish.
Facts:
South Cameron High School is located in southern Cameron Parish in a small, remote community which suffered extensive damage during Hurricanes Rita and Ike. The return of residents has been slowed by the restrictions and expense of being able to build to meet new residential and business building restrictions, which has made it difficult to staff the school with support and professional staff. Kevin Delaney, the son of the Principal Bobbye Delaney of South Cameron High School, was the sole applicant for a teaching position that was advertised for two consecutive months. Kevin Delaney is not a certified teacher but does have a degree and is exploring the option of teaching on a TAT certificate.
Law:
La. R.S. 42:1119A prohibits an immediate family member of an agency head from being employed in her agency.
Recommendations:
Adopt the proposed advisory opinion.
Assigned Attorney: Jennifer Land
