Fernest Martin has been employed with the Iberia Parish School Board since 2007 as the Lead Drill Sergeant/Police Officer assigned to the Alternative School for Education. In 2002, with two re-elections, Mr. Martin was elected to the position of Marshal for the City of Jeanerette. Jeanerette High School is located within the jurisdiction of Jeanerette City Court and the Jeanerette City Marshal's Office and is under the jurisdiction of the Iberia Parish School Board. The School Board seeks to enter into a School Resource Officer Contract with the Marshal's Office to provide a School Resource Office to the high school. Mr. Martin will not be the officer providing the services. According to an Attorney General's Opinion, it does not appear to be a dual office holding issue.
