Sarah Schirmer was the Criminal Justice Policy Advisor in the Office of Criminal Justice Coordination for the City of New Orleans. Ms. Schirmer was not a director but was responsible for implementing several policy priorities relative to judges and the Office of the District Attorney. Ms. Schirmer has accepted employment with a private consulting firm that has a contract with the City of New Orleans, however the contract is not with the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice Coordination.
Possible scenarios include the private consulting firm broadening the contract to include topics that Ms. Schirmer had under her purview as the Criminal Justice Policy Advisor and the private consulting firm receiving a grant from a philanthropic foundation to do work in New Orleans on topics previously under the purview of Ms. Schirmer, but no money would be received from the City of New Orleans.

La. R.S. 42:1121B(1) prohibits a public employee, for a period of two years following the termination of his public employment, from assisting another person, for compensation, in a transaction, or in an appearance in connection with a transaction in which such former public employee participated at any time during his public employment and involving the governmental entity by which he was formerly employed, or for a period of two years following termination of his public employment, rendering, any service which such former public employee had rendered to the agency during the term of his public employment on a contractual basis, regardless of the parties to the contract, to, for or on behalf of the agency with which he was formerly employed.
