Voice of the Experienced (VOTE) is a grassroots organization dedicated to restoring the full human and civil rights of formerly and currently incarcerated people. VOTE does not provide direct services to clients but serves as the fiscal agent for the Formerly Incarcerated Transitions Clinic (FIT Clinic). The FIT Clinic provides transitional healthcare for recently incarcerated patients, specifically, people re-entering the community following a period of incarceration.
The FIT Clinic submitted a Request for Proposals (RFP) to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections and was awarded justice reinvestment funding. As the fiscal agent for the FIT Clinic, VOTE will receive a 10% administrative fee for managing the grant.
Norris Henderson, VOTE's Executive Director, sat on the Justice Reinvestment Task Force and now sits on the Governor's Advisory Council which was created by the Justice Reinvestment Task Force. Neither the Governor's Advisory Council, nor its members were involved in the RFP process. Additionally, neither the Justice Reinvestment Task Force, which is no long in existence, nor the Governor's Advisory Council, is involved in any way with the awarding or monitoring of the grant awarded to the FIT Clinic by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections.
