| Advisory Opinion request from Sen. Karen Carter Peterson regarding her providing consulting services to Mueller Water Products, Inc. |

Mueller Water Products, Inc. ("Mueller") is a manufacturer and marketer of products and services used in the transmission, distribution, and measurement of water in North America. Mueller has previously had contracts with the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board and will pursue similar contracts with them in the future.
Karen Carter Peterson serves as Senator, District 5, with her current term ending on January 13, 2020. Sen. Peterson asks whether she would be prohibited from providing consulting services to Mueller. She states that she would not provide consulting services in matters before the State of Louisiana or a state agency.

La. R.S. 42:1111C(2)(d) prohibits a public servant from receiving anything of economic value for services provided to a person who has, or is seeking to obtain, a contractual, business, or financial relationship with the public servant's agency.
La. R.S. 42:1102(2)(a)(i) defines "Agency" for a legislator as the Legislative Branch of government.
La. R.S. 42:1111E(2) provides that no elected official of a governmental entity shall receive or agree to receive any thing of economic value for assisting a person in a transaction or in an appearance in connection with a transaction with the governmental entity or its officials or agencies, unless he files a written statement with the board prior to or within ten days after initial assistance is rendered.
