Request for an advisory opinion from Christina Melton, Deputy Director for Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB), regarding whether she can receive royalties as author of a book, purchased by LPB and used as a promotion for fundraising activities. |
|
Christina Melton was hired by Louisiana Public Broadcasting ("LPB") in September 2016 as a Deputy Director for the Louisiana Educational Television Authority. Prior to her employment with LPB, Ms. Melton contracted with LSU Press to co-author a book entitled Preserving Our Roots based on the life of John Coykendall whereby she would receive a royalty not greater than 4% for each book sold. A documentary on Coykendall entitled "Deeply Rooted" airs on LPB. Friends of LPB, a nonprofit corporation operating to support LPB, would like to purchase the LSU Press book, Preserving Our Roots to offer as a pledge gift for donors supporting Friends of LPB. Ms. Melton intends to donate any royalties received from the sale of Preserving Our Roots to LPB.
