RE:
Advisory Opinion request from Michael Clabro on behalf of the Assumption Parish School Board whether the spouse of a school principal can be hired as an athletic coach.
Facts:
Assistant District Attorney, Michael Calabro, representing the Assumption Parish School Board posed the following hypothetical question:

"If the principal of a particular academic institution, within the Assumption Parish School System, was to hire their spouse to fulfill the position of "athletic coach" (a position that would not be deemed a regular employee) at their academic institution location - would this hire be viewed as an allowable action under the Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics

Michael Calabro on behalf of the Assumption Parish School Board requested to withdraw his request for an advisory opinion as there was already a pending request based on the same facts.

Comments:
Advisory Opinion 2018-977 prohibited Kevin Delaney from being employed at South Cameron High School while his mother served as its principal.
Law:
La. R.S. 42:1119A prohibits an agency head from having an immediate family member employed in his agency.
Recommendations:
Allow the withdrawal of the request for an advisory opinion.
Assigned Attorney: Greg Thibodeaux
