RE:
Advisory opinion request as to whether the Code of Governmental Ethics would prohibit Lori Desselle from pursuing outside employment while she is employed with the Office of Juvenile Justice.
Facts:
Lori Desselle is currently employed as a Probation and Parole Officer 3 with the Office of Juvenile Justice. She is considering supplementing her income by working as a Criminal Justice adjunct faculty member with Baton Rouge Community College or as an online Criminal Justice instructor with Louisiana State University Alexandria. Ms. Desselle will provide instruction as an adjunct faculty member on various criminal justice subjects. However, she will not provide instruction on matters related to the Office of Juvenile Justice procedures or her duties as a Probation and Parole Officer.
Law:
La. R.S. 42:1111C(1)(a) prohibits a public servant from receiving any thing of economic value for any service, the subject matter of which is devoted substantially to the responsibilities, programs, or operations of the agency of the public servant and in which the public servant has participated.
Recommendations:
Adopt the proposed advisory opinion.
