Calcasieu Parish Coroner, Terry Welke would like to hire Janci Caldwell in the capacity as a Coroner Investigator. Janci Caldwell is the sister of Judd Bares, a Police Juror for Calcasieu Parish.
The office of coroner is provided for in the Louisiana Constitution, Art.5, Section 29, which provides that coroners are members of the judicial branch of government.
The legislature has delegated some of the responsibility for funding the coroner's office to parish governing bodies.

La. R.S. 42:1119B(1) prohibits the immediate family member of a member of a governing authority or the chief executive of a governmental entity from being employed by the governmental entity.
La. R.S. 42:1102(11) defines "governing authority" to mean the body which exercises the legislative functions of a political subdivision.
