Advisory opinion regarding whether Nathan Ashby, Town of Blanchard Alderman, may provide compensated services to Bearing Service and Supply, Inc. while it transacts business with the Town. |

In October 2007, Nathan Ashby went to work for Bearing Services and Supply, Inc. Mr. Ashby is a salaried employee; his salary is unaffected by the business Bearing Service and Supply has with the Town of Blanchard; he has no ownership interest in the business; and he does not serve as an officer, director, trustee nor partner.
In 2007, following his employment with Bearing Service and Supply, Mr. Ashby was elected to the office of Alderman for the Town of Blanchard. As such, he now serves as the Sewer Commissioner and is responsible for the inspection and approval for payment invoices incurred by the Utility Department, including invoices for Bearing Service and Supply. Once brought to his attention that this could be an issue, Mr. Ashby ceased inspecting and approving any invoices from Bearing Service and Supply.
