RE:
Request for an advisory opinion regarding the dual board memberships of Ann Smith on the Board of Supervisors at Southern University and the Tangipahoa School Board.
Facts:
Ms. Smith was elected School Board member for a second term in Tangipahoa Parish beginning January 1, 2011. She was later appointed by Governor Jindal to the Board of Supervisors at Southern University on July 14, 2011. She is not compensated for your services to the Southern University Board of Supervisors, and receives $800 per month from the Tangipahoa Parish School Board as an elected Board member. Neither Board has a contractual or financial relationship with the other.

Law:
Section 1113 of the Code prohibits a public servant from bidding on or entering into a contract or transaction that is under the supervision of the public servant's agency.

Recommendations:
Adopt the proposed advisory opinion.
