Advisory Opinion regarding the Charles W. Lamar, Jr. YMCA offering free trial membership weeks to state employees.
Comments:
The Charles W. Lamar, Jr. YMCA is a non-profit entity in existence since 2001. The Lamar Jr., YMCA has a partnership with the State of Louisiana to occupy the Third Street retail space of the LaSalle Building Parking Garage in downtown Baton Rouge, adjacent to the Capitol Park. As part of the partnership with the State of Louisiana the YMCA offers reduced rates for state employees to join the health club.

Part of the YMCA's partnership includes making the offers to state agencies of free, one-week, trial memberships to its employees on a yearly basis.

Law:
Section 1111A of the Code prohibits a public servant from receiving anything of economic value other than the remuneration and benefits to which he is duly entitled for the performance of his job duties.

Recommendations:
Adopt the proposed advisory opinion.
