Reconsideration of a request that the Board waive the $1,400 campaign finance late fee assessed against Deputies for a Safe St. Bernard, a political action committee, whose Annual campaign finance disclosure report was filed 7 days late.
Facts:
In connection with his request for a waiver of the $1,400 late fee assessed for the late filing of an Annual campaign finance report, John Vickers, Chairman, on behalf of the committee, states that their campaign account has not been used and has a zero balance. The account was closed earlier this year. Mr. Vickers maintains that the account was opened in 2011 in an effort to raise money for a newspaper ads and flyers, and no other transactions have been made. Mr. Vickers states that he will personally have to pay the late fee and asks that the late fee be waived.

18:1505.4.A(1) Any candidate, the treasurer or chairman of a political committee, or any other person required to file any reports under this Chapter, who knowingly fails to file or who knowingly fails to timely file any such reports as are required by this Chapter may be assessed a civil penalty as provided in R.S.42:1157 for each day until such report is filed.

Recommendations:
Suspend all but $500 based on future compliance.
