Florence Hargis, Sanitarian Parish Manager for Harrisonburg states that Sanitarians statewide no longer have any duties associated with the testing of public water systems. Water systems are now responsible for taking their own samples and contracting a service provider for sampling to insure they meet the Environmental Protection Agency standard for safe drinking water. Sanitarians generally have experience in taking water samples as a part of their regular duties and can insure proper sampling. Water systems would like to continue to use their present Sanitarian and compensate them for the service.
