Joe Gendron, Director of Government Relations for the Louisiana Bankers Association states that the Secretary of State is holding a mock presidential election where high school students from around the state will vote online for the candidate of their choice and attend a convention where the election process will be explained. The conference is scheduled to be held at the Louisiana Old State Capitol. The Secretary of State has solicited tax deductible donations to the Old State Capitol Foundation to help defray the cost of food and supplies for the students and all persons who attend the event.

R.S. 18:1505.2I provides that a political committee may use its campaign funds towards the administrative costs or operating expenses of the political committee. Excess campaign funds may be used for a future campaign; returned to contributors on a pro-rata basis; given as charitable contributions as provided in 26 USC 170(c) or contributions to 501(c)(3) organizations; or in support of or opposition to a proposition, political party, or candidate.
