RE:
Appearance in connection with a request for reconsideration of the $600, $600, $1,200, and $60 late fees assessed against Dadrius Lanus, a candidate for State Representative, District 63 in the May 6, 2010 election whose 10-P, EDE-P, 10-G, and Special campaign finance disclosure reports were filed 48, 28, 20, and 1 day(s) late.
Facts:
This matter is presently pending before the EAB panel. The panel agreed to allow Mr. Lanus to request a reconsideration of a waiver, based upon his claims that he is a first time candidate and also a student attending college. Mr. Lanus has expressed that he would like to appear and address the Board regarding his request for a reconsideration of a waiver of the late fees. The Board first considered Mr. Lanus' request for a waiver of the late fees at its August 20, 2010 meeting. Mr. Lanus stated in his waiver request that the May 1, 2010 election was his first campaign, he was a full-time student during the time of the campaign and his first set of election paperwork was damaged by water. He had no idea where to get a new set until he received notification from the Campaign Finance division. The Board declined to waive the late fees, and suspended all but $200 of the $1,200 late fee assessed for the 10-G report, and suspended all but $200 of the $600 late fee assessed for the EDE-P report. Mr. Lanus then received correspondence from the Board informing him that he could appeal the late fees. (see attached documentation). Mr. Lanus is a district level candidate. He was an unsuccessful candidate.
