Advisory opinion regarding Ken Slocum, a Union Parish Sheriff's Deputy, selling puppies born to his personal dog, which was sired by a male K-9, owned by the Sheriff's Office. |

Ken Slocum is a deputy sheriff for the Union Parish Sheriff's Office. A fellow deputy recently gave him a female German Shepherd dog that the deputy could no longer care for and was informed the dog may be pregnant by one of the department's K-9 dogs. Mr. Slocum did not pay for the dog. Mr. Slocum got the dog for the purposes of breeding her with his male German Shepherd.
The female German Shepherd has recently given birth to 8 puppies. Mr. Slocum is seeking an opinion as to whether he may sell the puppies.
