Advisory opinion that the Code of Governmental Ethics does not prohibit a company owned by the spouse of a teacher at Oaklawn Junior High School from entering into a contract for public relations work with the Terrebonne Parish School Board. However, the Code of Ethics prohibits the company from performing public relations work that includes Oaklaawn Junior High School.

former public servant of the governmental entity in question knows or should know <br /> is one in which the governmental entity has a direct interest.A transaction involving <br /> the agency of a governmental entity shall have the same meaning with respect to the <br /> agency. <br /> Public relations work that includes Oaklawn Junior High School would be a direct interest involving <br /> Elisabeth Gaiennie's agency.It would be considered a transaction within the definition in the Code. <br /> This activity along with Charles Gaiennie' ownership interest in WLGC would be considered a <br /> violation under Section 1113A(1)(a) prohibition from entering into a transaction that is under <br /> supervision or jurisdiction of the agency of the public servant.WLGC is prohibited from performing <br /> public relations work for Oaklawn Junior High School. <br /> This advisory opinion is based solely on the facts as set forth herein. Changes to the facts presented <br /> may result in a different application of the provisions of the Code of Ethics. The Board issues no <br /> opinion as to past conduct or laws other than Code of Governmental Ethics.
