Ethics Board Docket No. 2022-060 <br /> Page 5 of 7 <br /> an insurance application and finance agreement on behalf of the District Attorney's Office with <br /> DCIA,in which he knew his brother,Donald Cravins,owner of DCIA,had a substantial economic <br /> interest. <br /> If this matter proceeded to a public hearing before the Ethics Adjudicatory Board, and the <br /> Ethics Adjudicatory Board found a violation of the Ethics Code, the Ethics Adjudicatory Board <br /> could impose a fine of up to $10,000 for each violation of the Ethics Code, pursuant to La. R.S. <br /> 42:1153.The Ethics Adjudicatory Board could also impose penalties equal to one-and-a-half times <br /> the amount of economic advantage gained,pursuant to La. R.S.42:1155A of the Ethics Code. <br /> In this particular situation, the parties have agreed to resolve this matter amicably. <br /> Therefore, it is the conclusion of the BOE that the interests of the public and judicial efficiency <br /> would be served through the publication of this Consent Opinion with the imposition of a$500.00 <br /> civil penalty against Charles Cravins. <br /> VI. <br /> ORDER: <br /> For the foregoing reasons: <br /> IT IS ORDERED that Charles Cravins, in his capacity as District Attorney of the 271 <br /> Judicial District, violated La. R.S. 42:1112B(1)of the Ethics Code by virtue of participating in a <br /> transaction involving his governmental entity,the District Attorney's Office, and DCIA in which <br /> he knew his immediate family member, Donald Cravins,had a substantial economic interest. <br /> IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that a $500.00 civil penalty, payable to the Treasurer of <br /> the State of Louisiana,be imposed upon Charles Cravins and that in the event of a failure to pay, <br /> a suit may be filed to compel immediate payment of any balance due. <br /> [Signatures Contained on Following Page] <br />
