You asked whether campaign
• funds could be used to pay for membership dues, costumes and parade supplies related to
their membership in the civic organization.
The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you, that the use of campaign funds you
described would result in a violation of Section 1505.2I of the Campaign Finance Disclosure
Act which prohibits the personal use of campaign contributions.
The enclosed emergency opinion rendered by the Ethics Administrator on a related topic may
be of interest to you. That opinion concludes that the purchase of paraphernalia items
containing the name of the elected official would constitute an appropriate use of campaign
funds.
If you have any further questions, please call me at (504) 922 -1400.
Sincerely,
LOUISIANA BOARD OF ETHICS
i l l n '1j ')? 7-
(
0 Mans LeBlanc McCrory
For the Board
Enclosure (Board Docket 98 -013)
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
