O. Box 188
Gretna, LA 70054 -0188
Re: Ethics Board Docket No. 99 -289
Dear Sheriff Lee:
You recently submitted samples of a number of articles you threw in 1999 Mardi Gras
parades. Those items included a cup with your name and picture, a doll made in your image,
a necklace with your image attached as a pendant, and a refrigerator magnet with your image.
You asked the Board of Ethics to advise you if it had any questions.
At its May 13, 1999 meeting, the Board instructed me to inform you that it viewed the
articles you provided as acceptable items to be purchased with campaign funds. The Board
had earlier concluded, in Docket No. 98 -013, that the use of campaign funds to purchase
campaign paraphernalia bearing the name of an elected official was permitted pursuant to
R.S. 18:1505.2I. Given that the items you provided bear your name or image, the Board
believes that those items are appropriate campaign expenditures.
If you have further questions, please call me at (225) 922 -1400.
Sincerely,
LOUISIANA BOARD OF ETHICS
L.fii c,, f'(c6,-
'
Maris LeBlanc McCrory
For the Board
0
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
