You are currently a paramedic and are interested in a job with the St. George Fire District,which <br /> is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana and is governed by a Board of Commissioners. <br /> You ask whether your potential employment with the St. George Fire District would pose an issue <br /> under the Code. <br /> LAw <br /> La. R.S. 42:1119B(1) provides that no member of the immediate family of a member of a <br /> governing authority or the chief executive of a governmental entity shall be employed by the <br /> governmental entity. <br /> La. R.S. 42:1102 provides the following definitions: <br /> (11) "Governing authority" means the body which exercises the legislative <br /> functions of a political subdivision. <br /> (12) "Governmental entity" means the state or any political subdivision which <br /> employs the public employee or employed the former public employee or to which <br /> the elected official is elected, as the case may be. <br /> (13) "Immediate family" as the term relates to a public servant to include his <br /> children. <br /> Page 1 of 2 (BD 2023-946) <br /> AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER <br />
