Mr. Peterson states he is a lobbyist for the Pelican Institute for Public Policy, which is located in New Orleans. Mr. Peterson states he has never had a late fee. He states that, as his records show, he has never made a lobbying expenditure causing any delay in his report to be of little harm to the public interest. He had surgery at the end of June that caused him to be in recovery for the month of July and resulted in him having difficulty using the computer. He filled out the report, but failed to click the submit button. After being made aware of his failure to file, he states he immediately corrected his mistake.
Lobbying staff verified that Mr. Peterson first started filling out his June expenditure report on July 12, 2012. However, he did not finalize until July 27th.
Also, lobbying staff requested medical documentation from Mr. Peterson to support his waiver request. Mr. Peterson states he was contacted right before Hurricane Ida and did not want to put additional strain on the healthcare system by requesting full documentation from the hospital. Mr. Peterson provided a screenshot from his healthcare provider's website that showed he was at Southern Surgical on June 23, 2021.
