RE:
Advisory opinion request concerning Claude Jackson continuing to serve on the Caddo Parish Commission Fire District No. 8 ("Fire District") Board while serving on the Louisiana Gaming Control Board.
Facts:
Mr. Jackson stated that he is awaiting reconfirmation to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board by the Louisiana Senate. He was reappointed to an unpaid position on the Fire District Board on December 14, 2021. Mr. Jackson referenced La. R.S. 27:12 in his request for the advisory opinion.
Law:
La. R.S. 27:12 prohibits a member of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, or a member of their immediate family member, from having a pecuniary interest in, or doing business with any business or organization which holds a gaming license, contract, or permit issued by the Gaming Control Board. It also requires Louisiana Gaming Control Board members to file a financial disclosure statement with the Louisiana Board of Ethics.

La. R.S. 27:14 provides that "[n]o [Louisiana Gaming Control Board] member shall be engaged in any other form of public employment."
Recommendations:
Adopt draft of advisory opinion.
