RE:
A Request for an Advisory Opinion, submitted by Rob McCorquodale, concerning whether the Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics ("Code") would prohibit him from providing legal services to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office through a law firm after retiring as the in-house counsel for the CPSO.
Facts:
Mr. McCorquodale served as the In-House Counsel for the CPSO's since July 2000. He retired in January 2023. He inquired as to whether he can provide legal services to the CPSO while being employed at Stutes & Lavergne.
Comments:
Whether Mr. McCorquodale can providing legal services, on a contractual basis, to the CPSO?

"Agency of the public servant" and "his agency" when used in reference to the agency of a public servant shall mean for public servants in the twenty principal departments of the executive branch of state government, the office in which such public servant carries out his primary responsibilities.
La. R.S. 42:1121(A)(1) provides that no former agency head or elected official shall, for a period of two years following the termination of his public service as the head of such agency or as an elected public official serving in such agency, assist another person, for compensation, in a transaction, or in an appearance in connection with a transaction, involving that former agency or render any service on a contractual basis to or for such agency.
Recommendations:
Adopt proposed advisory opinion.
