RE:
Consent Opinion for Karen Carter Peterson, successful candidate for State Senator, 5th Senatorial District, in the October 12, 2019 election, and LA Democrats relating to various violations of the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act.
Law:
La. R.S. 18:1505.2I states that contributions received by a candidate or a political committee may be expended for any lawful purpose, but such funds shall not be used, loaned, or pledged by any person for any personal use unrelated to a political campaign, the holding of a public office or party position, or, in the case of a political committee, other than a candidate's principal campaign committee or subsidiary committee, the administrative costs or operating expenses of the political committee.

La. R.S. 18:1505.1C states that failure to disclose or failure to disclose accurately any information required to be reported by the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act shall constitute a violation of the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act.


Recommendations:
Adopt and publish consent opinion.
