RE:
Request that the Board waive the $760 campaign finance late fee assessed against Sonceria Brown Evans, a successful candidate for Member of School Board, District V, West Baton Rouge Parish, in the November 8, 2022 election, whose 30-P campaign finance disclosure report was filed 19 days late.
Facts:
Sonceria Brown Evans requests a waiver and states the following: Her failure to file was based on her ignorance of the law, as she is a first-time candidate with no experience in the political arena. The packet she received didn't contain the filing scheduling requirements, and she assumed the report was due at the end of the election. Once informed of her monthly reporting requirements, she submitted a request for a Leaders account and filed her reports. In review of the law regarding late filing, she realized she may be fined a maximum of $2,000. She has only raised $1,700 in contributions and spent her own funds to support her campaign.
