RE:
Request for reconsideration of an advisory opinion regarding whether the Code of Governmental Ethics ("Code") prohibits St. Mary Parish Library from employing the daughter of the St. Mary Parish President.
Facts:
Allison Jones is currently the Assistant Director for the St. Mary Parish Library. Ms. Jones was hired by St. Mary Parish Library on June 20, 2023. Ms. Jones' father, Sam Jones, has been elected for the St. Mary Parish President seat. St. Mary Parish created the St. Mary Parish Library and it is a component of the St. Mary Parish Government; therefore, a part of Mr. Jones' agency.
Comments:
Allison Jones requested a reconsideration of the Advisory Opinion published in October 2023. The Advisory Opinion analysis does not change.

Send the newly adopted Advisory Opinion to Ashton Meyers and Allison Jones.

The new analysis adds La. R.S. 42:1119D.

Law:
La. R.S. 42:1119B(1) No member of the immediate family of a member of a governing authority or the chief executive of a governmental entity shall be employed by the governmental entity.
Recommendations:
Adopt the newly revised Advisory Opinion. Send a copy of the Opinion to Allison Jones in response to her request for a reconsideration.
