RE:
Request that the Board waive the $720.00 campaign finance late fees assessed against Jan Swift, an unsuccessful candidate for City of Lafayette Mayor-President in the October 14, 2023 election, whose 2022 Annual campaign finance disclosure reports was filed 12 days late.
Facts:
Jan Swift requests a waiver and states the following: late filing of the report is due to an inadvertent clerical error. She did not realize that she transposed the receipt date on one of the received contributions. It incorrectly reflected a date prior to 11/21/2022, which was the date she received a contribution and opened a campaign bank account. She believed her report was submitted timely and didn't think to follow up until 12 days later when she didn't receive proof of submission. Ms. Swift then logged in to her LEADERS account and noticed the error. She received guidance from a BOE representative to help correct her error. Previously, the reports were filed by her former CPA. She now understands the importance of retaining professional assistance. Ms. Smith is committed to holding the highest ethical standards and would like to ask that the assessed fee be waived. She would like to make an appearance.
