RE:
Waiver request submitted by James Veuleman, candidate for Member of School Board / District 5 / Desoto Parish in the November 8, 2022 election, regarding a $500 late fee assessed for filing his 2021 Tier 3 candidate pfd 436 days late.
Facts:
James R. "Jim" Veuleman thought he submitted his disclosures, but he failed to send them as certified mail. Although he qualified for the election, he reconsidered due to his health and age. Unfortunately, he missed the final withdrawal date, which meant that he was still on the ballot. At his own expense, he placed an advertisement in the Desoto Parish Enterprise to clarify that he was not a candidate and that he endorsed the incumbent. Mr. Veuleman did not campaign, nor did he print any cards or signs, and he did not win the election. He did not receive or spend any money on the campaign, except for the qualifying fee. Mr. Veuleman would like to apologize and ask for consideration in waving the late fee that was assessed.
