Docket No. 24-220
Application for Declaratory Hearing /Declaratory Opinion to terminate a controversy or remove an uncertainty regarding whether St. Tammany Parish Coroner Christopher Tape's conduct, both qualifying to run for office, and after elected officials called for his resignation, violates ethics standards for Louisiana elected officials.
Christopher Tape qualified to run for the office of St. Tammany Parish Coroner in the October 14, 2023 election. Dr. Tape ran unopposed; therefore, he was elected to office. In February 2024, a news article was published regarding Dr. Tape's indictment on child sex abuse allegations. The news article appear to conclude there was some merit to allegations; however, the indictment was dismissed on a technicality for failure to prosecute timely. After the story was published, many elected St. Tammany Parish officials called for Dr. Tape to resign from office, especially considering his office is responsible for investigating sexual assault cases. Dr. Tape has refused to resign.
Decline to hold a hearing on the Application for Declaratory Opinion.
