RE:
Request that the Board waive the $2,000, $2,000 and $1,920 campaign finance late fees ($5,920 total) assessed against Betty Ward Cooper, unsuccessful candidate for Mayor, City of Monroe, Ouachita Parish, in the March 23, 2024 election, whose 2023 Annual, 30-P and 10-P campaign finance disclosure reports were filed 47, 50 and 32 days late, respectively.
Facts:
Betty Ward Cooper requests a waiver and states the following: She posted the wrong deadline date on her calendar for the first report. This caused a delay that she could not overcome because things were very hectic. She also had website issues. Some of her donations were declined via the new website, and addresses for the donors were not collected. It was time-consuming to correct these issues. There were interviews, debates, events, phone calls, meetings with voters and the team, preparing for speeches, and much more that did not subside until the campaign was over. Unfortunately, the plan to have someone prepare and submit the reports never happened. Ms. Ward-Cooper prepared the reports, which took time to ensure accurate reporting. She is requesting your grace and mercy at this time.
