Discussion regarding proposed legislation filed for the 2025 Legislative Session as to the laws administered by the Louisiana Board of Ethics.
Facts:
As of April 17, 2025, the following bills have been filed:

HB 160 (Rep. Dickerson) - Provides relative to ethics complaints.

HB 2016 (Rep. Jackson) - Provides for broadcast and recording of BOE Meetings.

HB 335 (Rep. Freeman) - Provides an exception for post-employment restrictions for sexual assault nurse examiners.

HB 397 (Rep. Beaullieu) - Provides for revisions to the Ethics Code.

HB 511 (Rep. Owen) - Provides for the registration of foreign adversaries.

HB 586 (Rep. McMakin) - Provides for the calling a constitutional convention.

HB 596 (Reps. Wright and Beaullieu) - Provides for revisions to the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act.


SB 183 (Sen. Morris) - Creates the crime of unlawful accepting of a thing of value by a public servant.


Law:
R.S. 42:1134J provides that the Louisiana Board of Ethics "shall make recommendations to the governor and the legislature for revisions in the Code of Governmental Ethics and other legislation relating to the conduct of public servants and other persons subject to the provisions of this Chapter who are within its jurisdiction."
