Advisory Opinion Request from Don Pledger, the Executive Director of La. Association on Compulsive Gambling, regarding the employment of an immediate family member. |
|
The Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling ("LACG") is a nonprofit organization, not a public entity in the sense of being a government agency or department. However, LACG funding structure and mission highlight a close relationship with the state and its efforts to address problem gambling. While LACG receives grants from the Louisiana Casino Association and individual donors, a sizable portion of our primary funding comes from contracts with the Louisiana Department of Health, specifically the Office of Behavioral Health ("OBH"). LACG does not believe it meets the legal definition of a government entity, but our close collaboration with and funding from the Louisiana government, coupled with our public service mission, makes us a vital partner in addressing critical public health issues of problem gambling and suicide.
