On September 15, 2025, an employee for the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) was seen in a television campaign ad making statements endorsing one of the New Orleans mayoral candidates.
HANO would like to know whether HANO employees are permitted to do the following:
1) Appear in campaign videos or other promotional materials endorsing or supporting a specific candidate in a municipal election; and ,
2) Whether there are any distinctions in permissible political activity between classified and unclassified employees, as well as any exceptions or varying levels of allowed participation under state and local law, or ethics regulations.
